Scottsdale Tax Planning Strategies: Section 199A, Depreciation, and More

Get In Touch

Smart tax planning can make a big difference in your bottom line—especially for business owners in Scottsdale navigating Arizona’s evolving economy, real estate investments, and multi-entity structures. Whether you’re a service provider, real estate professional, or managing an S-Corp or LLC, now is the time to explore tax strategies that can reduce your liabilities and support long-term growth.

At Concierge Consulting & Accounting, PLLC, we specialize in year-round tax planning for Scottsdale entrepreneurs, medical and legal professionals, contractors, consultants, and multi-entity businesses. Here are some of the most effective tax strategies we help implement—including Section 199A, bonus depreciation, and more.

Section 199A Deduction: Pass-Through Savings

If you’re operating as an S-Corp, LLC, partnership, or sole proprietor, you’re likely eligible for the Section 199A Qualified Business Income (QBI) deduction—which allows up to a 20% deduction on your business income.

Key 199A Considerations:

  • Income phaseouts begin at $182,100 (single) or $364,200 (married filing jointly) in 2023
  • Certain service businesses (law, health, consulting) may face limitations
  • W-2 wages and qualified property affect eligibility and deduction amount
  • Entity type and structure impact how the deduction applies

A licensed CPA can help you optimize your compensation and entity structure to maximize this deduction.

Accelerated Depreciation and Bonus Write-Offs

Arizona allows full participation in federal depreciation rules, including 100% bonus depreciation (phased down after 2023). That means you may be able to deduct the full cost of qualifying equipment, vehicles, or property improvements in the year of purchase.

Ideal for:

  • Real estate investors and developers
  • Construction companies purchasing equipment
  • Medical and dental practices upgrading office technology
  • Any business investing in capital assets

Using Section 179 in combination with bonus depreciation allows even greater flexibility—especially for vehicles over 6,000 lbs. or office renovations.

S-Corp Salary Optimization

If you’re running an S-Corp (or thinking of electing one), balancing your reasonable salary vs. profit distributions is key to tax efficiency. Overpaying yourself in W-2 wages can increase payroll taxes, while underpaying can trigger IRS audits.

A Scottsdale-based CPA can:

  • Benchmark industry salary standards
  • Run simulations based on income goals
  • Help set up quarterly payroll
  • Ensure compliance with Arizona and federal tax authorities

Real Estate and Cost Segregation Strategies

Scottsdale is a hotspot for real estate professionals, investors, and Airbnb/short-term rental operators. We help clients take advantage of cost segregation studies, which accelerate depreciation on components of investment properties.

Potential benefits:

  • Immediate tax savings through front-loaded depreciation
  • Lower taxable income from rental activities
  • Enhanced cash flow and ROI

We also advise on short-term rental rules, passive activity limitations, and Arizona-specific reporting obligations.

Entity Restructuring and Tax Planning

Sometimes, the best tax strategy is revisiting your entity structure altogether. We’ve helped Scottsdale clients:

  • Convert LLCs to S-Corps for tax savings
  • Split multiple lines of business into separate entities
  • Optimize ownership structures for estate or partnership planning
  • Set up holding companies for liability protection and financial clarity

Every business is unique—your tax strategy should be too.

FAQs: Scottsdale Business Tax Planning

Can I still take 100% bonus depreciation?

Yes—but it’s being phased down. The bonus rate dropped to 80% in 2023 and will continue to decrease unless extended by Congress. We can help you plan asset purchases accordingly.

Do I qualify for the 199A deduction as a consultant?

It depends on your total income, how your business is structured, and your W-2 wages. We’ll run a personalized calculation to find out.

Is it too late to restructure for this tax year?

Not necessarily—S-Corp elections can sometimes be made retroactively. Call us now to discuss your options before year-end.
